Description:

We are still fascinated with ancient Egyptian civilization. There are many unanswered questions that still perplex the scientists and engineers of today's world. You have a chance to relive the life of Egyptian royalty, and play Senet, the favorite game of the pharaohs. There were ancient Senet games found in King Tutankhamon's tomb. It's very likely that King Tut played Senet during his short life. Over the centuries, the Senet game evolved into Backgammon - another game of chance and strategy.

5Senet game is a family favoriteJan 11, 2007
By L. Schaerr "noclocksinthegarden"
We had borrowed a Senet game exactly like this one a few years ago. Our kids loved it. I had not been able to find one anywhere until this Christmas. We have played it a lot. Our kids are 11, 8, 6, and 2. All of us, except for the 2-yo, play it. My husband and I both enjoy playing Senet with the kids. It is really a fun two-player game. You toss the wooden sticks like dice onto the table and the way they land decides how many spaces you can move on the board. You can move your pieces into combinations to be safe together or to blockade other pieces from moving. But you can't stay that way too long because you have to keep moving to get all your pieces off the board and win.

5Senat gameJan 02, 2011
By Lady Dovelle
The set is a handsome wood construction which includes both a standard D-6 for modern play and throwing sticks for the traditional way of drawing a number (dice as we know them weren't around back in the day, unless you wanted to use knuckle bones). Inspired by the art work uncovered in temples and tombs, the pieces were desined to look just like those used by the pharaohs and their queens centuries ago.

Interestingly, the decor of the set, in later hieroglyphs, are not just random sketches. They actually do have a particular meaning, indicating some research on the part of the designers, which is commendable.

The ancestor to traditional games like Snakes and Ladders and Trouble, Senat is an easy game to learn and each round can take a few minutes or hours, depending on the roll of the dice (or throwing sticks). A fun game while in play, it is also a handsome piece to a room's decor while at rest.

4Good idea but far from perfectFeb 06, 2010

I bought this toy for my little brother from Big Brothers Big Sister for his birthday. He is currently in an all things Egyptian kick. He was very excited when he unwrapped it. He wanted to play immediately. When he pulled the game out we noticed that one of the picture squares was smudged and unreadable. :-(

Great toy, shoddy workmanship

5Great Game, Beautifully Constructed!May 08, 2012
By Sean Baca "Sean"
This is a fun game to play. We're glad we purchased it. The rules are easy enough for our six year old to follow and both she and her nine year old brother enjoy playing whenever they can. They love to beat dad! As others have said, the game is beautifully constructed and has a fine quality look to it. I'm sure our kids and we will love playing this game for years to come!

This is a fun game, easy to learn. From kids 8 to adults. Very sturdy and long lasting. Prefer to use dice over the game sticks for rolling but great fun and a way to get the family together and off the computer!
