Magnetic Chess SetMay 02, 2011

This is an excellent magnetic chess set! The magnets are very strong. You can hold the board upside down and none of the pieces will fall off. In addition the board/box is very well made. Be advised this is a travel set and as such it is small but then again that is exactly what I wanted i.e. a small magnetic travel set!!

I was looking for a set for playing with books and this set is perfect. I found all the others I looked at way too big, as it needs to sit on my desk. The pieces are small and solid and actually have felt on the bottom. The board has notation. The only snafu is that the board has a slight, barely discernible wave in it, which I can fix, if need be, with glue. Which of course I shouldn't have to. But otherwise just what I was looking for! And shipped from CA in 3 days, surely a record, as I live on the East coast.

Excellent replica of tournament boardFeb 11, 2012

Almost all small magnetic boards are overpriced and relatively cheap quality. This China-made board isn't perfect; I wonder how long the plastic hinges are going to last, etc., but for the price and the features I wanted, it's excellent. I had never seen a small magnetic board with the standard white/green colors and square numbers/letters of a tournament board. I find that very helpful, both visually and in training new players. That was the main reason I bought this, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the pieces are thicker and heavier than most magnetic sets - especially the knight. You'll see what I mean when you pick it up - it's actually a pleasure to move. The magnets seem to hold well. I'm very satisfied that I got what I wanted at a reasonable price.

This is the best magnetic chessboard I've bought so far and probably the last one :)
The pieces hold, the size is right to be used with a book on the side and to be taken around to play with friends.
