I bought this set for my seven year old, who has been playing chess for about six months now and is highly enthusiastic about it. She goes to a local chess club and this is the type of chess set they use there. The mat is sturdy, the figures have a nice feel and are heavy. I was pleasantly surprised to find a chess set of this quality for less than $20. Excellent value. Highly recommended.

I was actually just looking for some extra pieces and this ended up being cheaper (free shipping with PRIME) than buying a chess piece set. I see some reviewers feel that the pieces are too light, however, the pieces that came with mine are noticeably heavier than my old tournament set that I bought from USCF. The mat is okay - feels a bit less flexible than my old one of course it could be age that has softened mine up.
The only reason I gave this 4/5 is that the felt on the bottom of the pieces were poorly done. I am pretty sure it will come off eventually. Doing it over I probably would have just caved, paid another $10 and bought a set from USCF. Overall not bad.

these weighted chess pieces feel like the real deal. They're plastic, but weighted so they don't feel cheap at all. The chess board is heavy vinyl, and rolls for storage. When you roll it up, make sure you roll it with the printing out, so it will lay flat and not curl during your next game.

I can't complain! For $20., this set is so good. the board is a bit flimsy, but for the durability and quality of these chess pieces, they are well made for such a small amount of money!
