When I was invited to join a Mahjong group with friends several months ago, it reminded me of how my mother used to play Mahjong when I was a little girl. At that time, it seemed to be a confusing and pointless game but now that I have been playing for a significant amount of time, I really enjoy it! The Mahjong set I purchased from Amazon is gorgeous- the case, beautiful tiles and wooded racks- and now that I have my own set, my friend doesn't have to bring her Mahjong set to my house when it is my turn to host. It is a great idea to learn how to play Mahjong from friends who know the game because you can first learn the names of the tiles and the strategies as you are playing on an open table and before you know it, you have mastered the game. The first time my friends played with my new Mahjong set, it received rave reviews from all of them as it does from me!

I grew up playing with my parents, cousins and Grandma. I wanted to start a group of people to play here at my home. Although I haven't started that up, I have taught my family to play! Yes, my hubby and 2 twelve year olds! WE HAVE HAD HOURS OF FUN ALREADY!!! This is a very nice set, just like my grandmother's set! I highly recommend this one, but remember, you will still need to buy the playing cards for each player. There are new cards each year! Have Fun!

My new Mahjong set arrived ahead of time and in good shape. However one of the tiles had paint on the side, and that was an issue. Anyone who plays Mahjong knows that you don't want a tile that identifies itself when it is in your hand or on the board. We were able to sand the paint off, but I am not sure how you would deal with this kind of issue if you weren't able to remove the paint, unless you sent the whole set back. This is just the problem of ordering something you have not been able to inspect before hand. The set did not come with enough plastic coins to play our version of MJ, and there was not an options to order more. Frankly this set is pricey, and while the wood trays are nice, the tiles are the same as the ones you get with the less expensive version of the set with the plastic trays.
